dialy life at school
Young boys started school at the age of 6 or 7. Girls were not allowed to go to school, But if they were a wealthy family they could hire a private tutor. If the girls family wasn't so wealthy then would stay at home to help clean with their mother. Their mothers would teach them how to sew and clean. School began before sunrise and ended in the afternoon. They had a rest period for lunch and a siesta after lunch. They would use pebbles to count in math. At the age of 12 and 13 is when school began to get a bit harder. Poor people couldn't afford school, so they would either have tutors teach them or their parents. They didn't have a very good chance of learning. As the Romans schools got better they began teaching more subjects like latin. The schools were important because young kids needed to learn to have a good future. If the children didn't learn to read or write then they wouldn't be able to talk as well as everyone else.
